Fiona Phillips and Alzheimer's

We were very sad to hear that TV presenter Fiona Phillips has developed Alzheimer's disease, which both her parents also had. Fiona is in the relatively rare group of sufferers who are under 65 - the vast majority of people are diagnosed when they are over 80. she is taking part in medical trials with a drug called miridesap at University College Hospital in London. The drug removes a protein from the brain which can stop amyloid plaques from damaging brain cells and, possibly, halt the progress of the disease. We wish Fiona all the best in her treatment and hope this, along with other new dementia drugs being developed, is successful for her and other patients.
